Vanity

"Vanity" represents human's desire to conquer the universe. However, humanity's attempts are in vain.

What captures the viewers in the painting is the moon, which is a conquered part in the infinite sky. Nevertheless, the part people want to have in their hands shows contempt, just like a beautiful woman turning down a persistent lover. Despite the rejection, humanity is adamant and doesn't give up.
